Domingos Santos Photography
A little about me:
Hello. My name is Domingos Santos, I’m 47 years old, married, father of
3 fantastic children, and I have 2 two passions. The family and
photography. I am the third generation of a family dedicated to
photography for more than 90 years. Everything started almost 100 years
ago. My grandfather opened our first studio, in the Oaks, with the name
of General Photo. My father and my uncle followed in his footsteps.
After a few years, more concretely in 1970, I had little more than a
week of life, my father decided to come to Espinho, opening Foto Artis,
reference studio national, for many years.
My brother, Jorge Santos, since childhood has shown great sensitivity
to photography, starting to wedding photography at age 13. It quickly
became a national reference as well. He was the first Portuguese
photographer to win the Goya Prize. He was the first Portuguese
photographer and lectured abroad, was the 1st Portuguese QEP and the 1st
Portuguese photographer. In 1987 I joined the team of Foto Artis, at
the time making video. It never attracted me much, and after about 3
years, I started to photograph. In 1992, my brother and I left the Foto
Artis, and set up another studio called Jorge Santos & Irmão. We
were not open yet, and we had 60 marriages marked. In 2000, my brother
decided to leave society. He wanted to focus on other areas of
photography.
The company Jorge Santos & Irmão finished, and appeared to
Domingos Santos, that lasts until the present day. I know the question
is going to be in the air, but I’m already starting to doubt it. I have
no prizes, no QEP, no Master, no other prize. The reason is simple, I do
not like contests or prizes, and as such I never competed at all. You
could have it or not, but this is me. The only prize that moves me, that
makes me vibrate and always walk looking for to make better are my
clients. It is the smiles, sometimes the tears, the expressions of
admiration, the questions “but where were you that I did not see you”.
Your happiness is the only prize I need.
